Dress - Motel Rocks, Yanin Slip Dress

I was lucky enough to win this lovely dress from my absolute favorite style blogger, Bee from IDressMyselff. She designed this slip dress for Motel Rocks, and had a little giveaway for it on her blog. It arrived in the mail one day before my 21st birthday, so of course I wore it for my big day! It's such a versatile design, and it's handmade (I read the tag ;)). This dress can be dressed up, or down, and can be worn in pretty much any season. I threw on a pair of tights when I wore it on my birthday due to Chicago being freezing this time of year.

Check out my new video where I show you 3 different ways to style this dress here.

Thanks to Yanin and Analise from Motel Rocks - love the dress!

I think red is every girl's color. I'd wear this lovely number on a dinner date with my boyfriend. Although it may be a bit too cold to wear in Chicago now, I'd throw on a pair of tights and closed toe heels to stay warm. Wearing a LRD (little red dress) with some red lipstick makes me feel so powerful! What's your ideal date night outfit?

This time of year calls for unpredictable Chicago weather. All of the things I'm eyeing are safe bets for surviving Fall and Winter in this lovely city.

What have you been eyeing this season?

your girl in the suburbs,

I've started my last year of college today, and I couldn't be happier. I am studying Fashion Merchandising, and I'm excited to see where my degree will take me. I don't always like dressing nice at school (especially because I have to wake up at 6AM) and love my casual outfits. This one is super simple, looks very cleans, but has visual interest. Instead of pairing a crop top with my high waisted jeans, I went for a v-neck t-shirt that I purchased in the mens department of H&M. It has the perfect amount of slouch, and definitely goes with my "casual" vibe. I also purchased these jeans from H&M, but did a little DIY on them with the rips at the knees. I cut the holes near the top of my knees to elongate my legs a bit. I'm only 5'4", and I love looking and feeling tall! To keep this outfit simple and casual, I only threw on two simple necklaces, and my white converse to match the white top and white notes in my jeans.

What is your favorite casual University outfit?

Sweater & Scarf - H&M | Leggings - PacSun | Booties - DSW | Jewelry - Forever 21 & TwelveOhSix | Lipstick - NYX
I'm having a thing for green this season. I'm not sure what it is, but any and everything green is catching my eye. I took a trip downtown Chicago on Tuesday morning and decided to pop in the H&M on State St. As soon as I walked into the store, I saw this sweater. I waltzed over to the rack that housed the sweater and was lucky to find one extra small (they had like 10 mediums, no kidding). I also picked up the same sweater in a pale pink color, and as I tried each of them on I noticed that the green sweater was damaged (cue tears). Luckily for me, I  got the sweater for 10% off. Score! I left H&M with this sweater, the beautiful grey scarf you see in the photos, a skirt, and a pair of high waisted skinnies for less than $55. What a steal.

Style Board - DIY (learn how to make one here) | Mug - Marshall's | Lamp - IKEA | Cactus - IKEA | Desk - IKEA
I thought I'd start out this blog showing you my workspace. It's quaint, colorful, and has everything I need (minus a bag of kettle corn). This is where the magic happens. (By the way, how cute is my little cactus?)

Here's a little birds-eye-view for you.

First off, I have my DIY style inspiration board. When I'm working on what video to film next, or thinking of what I should wear for the day, I have this little gem to guide me. Next, I have a box full of treasures. Okay, it's not really full of treasures, but it doesn't have some pretty important things in there like my camera, base of my phone charger, alternate Macbook charger, a lighter (it's only for candles, I swear), my trusty flash drive, and a paper & binder clip. I have my pen cup and stapler on the top left, and my LED desk lamp and cactus on the top right corner. Now, let's move down to the most accessible part of my desk. To the left of my laptop I always have the latest edition of the magazine that I try to get myself to actually read, and accompanying the mag is my favorite mug. I got this little beaut for $8 at Marshall's and it sure was a steal. Today, it was filled with some delicious chamomile tea with a touch of honey. Yum. On the right of my laptop, you see my trusty "Ideas Grow Here" notebook that I purchased from Target a few months back. I write my to-do lists, random thoughts, video ideas, and even school notes in that little thing. But now I've decided it won't leave my desk and I will only use it for YouTube and blogging ideas (because I've refused to use the 5 other journals I have laying around my room for far too long).

And last but not least, my pride and joy, my Macbook Pro. I received this as a high school graduation gift in 2012 from my mom, and it is so precious to me. This is where I do all of my editing, internet browsing, homework, Hulu-Plus-and-Netflix-watching. It's my baby, and I love it. No matter how many other models will come out, this will be my fave.

I hope you have enjoyed this first blog post, as I have enjoyed writing it.

 Here's to many more.
