Prom Season

I'm so excited about today's post. I have spent the past few days scouring the internet in attempts to find the best prom dresses at any budget. These aren't just any prom dresses, but they are ones that are perfect for the girl who loves minimalist style and who wants to stand out without all of the extra frills.
I consider prom to be one of the only "red carpet" moments a lady has in her lifetime. So, my main goal when picking these dresses was to find things that I think would be land you on the best dressed list.
I think the trouble most ladies have when choosing their prom dress is struggling to lose the wedding dress vibes. It can be tough searching for a dress that doesn't scream princess when you love a more streamlined, minimal look. I know I had trouble when originally searching for dresses until I (quickly) decided to design my own. The dresses I chose are all super stunning and do a nice job at showing off some skin while still managing to be a bit modest.
Here are my picks of standout dresses for the lady who loves minimalism (and dancing).
ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE
Here's a little extra of me at prom back in 2012 wearing the dress I designed and got custom made. I went for a high-low silhouette so my dress could float when I was walking. I wanted a metallic vibe so I picked out this medium weight satin fabric, sourced the studs from eBay, and found my clutch at Charming Charlie. Looking back on it, I definitely would've done a few things differently but at the time I was super happy with the outcome. Let's not get started on my choice of makeup. Ha!

I hope you love these picks as much as I do, and good luck on your prom dress hunt!

The Weather is Confused

The weather this winter has felt like fall, winter, and spring all rolled up into one season. My go-to outfit has been a sweater paired with jeans, with a nice big scarf to finish it off. The morning can be 60 degrees, and by nightfall it is 27, so the scarf definitely comes to the rescue (of course with a puffer coat to bundle up in!). I can't seem to break my habit of wearing neutral colors, but they just go with everything and I always feel very put together while wearing my basic colors. Who knew a pair of jeans and a sweater could look so good?

How is the weather this winter treating you where you live?

The Definition of Budget Fashion

I've been browsing my Bloglovin' feed and Pinterest boards and I've come across quite a few "budget" fashion and beauty posts. I've come to realize the word "budget" definitely means different things, for different people. One post I saw in particular showed a pair of $120 jeans labeled as a "budget buy" and I was actually bewildered - like, literally.
I'm a fresh college grad, searching for a full-time position, working part-time hours at Gap - and my definition of budget does not include dropping $120 on a pair of jeans. I definitely see that as more of an investment buy. So anyway, this got me thinking about why I initially started this blog. I of course created it to share my love of fashion and style with other like-minded individuals, but I sought out to share my definition of budget fashion. I consider myself to be pretty frugal, and definitely think my definition of budget shopping works for my fellow un-established-in-the-workforce gals out there.
So, here's my pledge to you that I will never label something as a "budget item" if a broke 20-something can't afford it (because let's be real, that's what a budget item really is).
Okay, so how many times did I use the word 'budget' in this post?

The Rose Colored Dress Pt. 2

Dress - Urban Outfitters | Turtleneck - Uniqlo | Leggings - Pacsun (similar) | Shoes - Zara (similar) | Glasses - Aldo | Lipstick - ColourPop

Hey guys! Here is the second installation of the "one dress, two ways" mini series. This time I styled this dress up and added a bit of modesty and sophistication to the look. Since the dress is very lacy and is reminiscent of intimate wear, I paired it with a black turtleneck and full length leather leggings. This helps cover up the rest of my body to offset the intimacy of the dress.

Don't forget to check out part one here, and let me know which outfit you like best!

The Rose Colored Dress Pt. 1

Dress - Urban Outfitters | Shoes - Adidas | Shirt - H&M | Glasses - Aldo | Lipstick - ColourPop
Hey guys! I picked this dress up a few days ago and wanted to do a "one dress, two ways" type of mini series on the blog. The first way I styled this dress is super casual and dressed down. I know that it's in the middle of winter and you wouldn't catch me wearing this out in Chicago, but it was too cute not to style this way! A more practical take on a casual styling of this dress would be to throw on a pair of jeans with it and do a cute half tuck. This way you wouldn't freeze, and you'll still look super cute!
Keep an eye out for the second post on how I style this dress!
